Mercedes Logo Meaning

mercedes-logo

You’ve probably seen your fair share of Mercedes-Benz logos as you navigate the streets of Blue Ash. What is the Mercedes logo meaning, though? Mercedes-Benz of Cincinnati has an answer to that as well as some fun Mercedes-Benz history. We’ve also got some great information on our AMG® line of performance vehicles.

A Brief Mercedes-Benz History

Mercedes-Benz was the brainchild of two early automotive innovators, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler. They knew what the right engineering could do for a car and Mercedes-Benz was their way of setting a new standard in automotive design. After Karl Benz’s 1886 motorized vehicle and Gottlieb Daimler’s original horseless carriage, Benz & Cie. came into being from Karl Benz and Daimler created DMG.

The first car known as a Mercedes didn’t come into being until 1900 and the modern Daimler-Benz corporation started in 1926. This was a great success for the automotive world, as Daimler-Benz sold 7,000 Mercedes-Benz models in 1927. Later on, in 1930, the Mercedes-Benz W15 became a big hit and set the standard for top of the line cars that Mercedes-Benz would continue well into the future.

What Does the Mercedes 3-Pointed Star Mean?

The first Mercedes logo was a creation of the sons of Gottlieb Daimler, Paul and Adolf Daimler. Their inspiration for the Mercedes 3-pointed star came from a mark that Gottlieb Daimler used to mark the family postcards. This is a significant piece of evidence in figuring out the Mercedes logo’s meaning. At first, the Mercedes logo was a gold star. Over time, the Mercedes 3-pointed star shifted to a white star inside a thick circle with detailing around the edges of the circle.

Today, the Mercedes logo has become a silver circle with a three-pointed star in the center. Over time, the three points of the star represent the Daimler engines’ supremacy on the land, in the sea, and in the air. Montgomery Mercedes-Benz models come either as a stamp embedded in the grille or a hood ornament that stands up from the body of the car. You might also find a Mercedes AMG® logo if you’ve got a Mercedes-Benz performance model.
