Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS®: What is It & How Does It Work?

2020 CLA Coupe

Unlike your average single-speed cruise control system, Mercedes-Benz DISTRONIC PLUS® maintains your vehicle’s speed, as well as its distance from a straight-ahead vehicle. How does it do this? It uses radar technology to sense the distance between your car and the one ahead, and can make adjustments as necessary. This helps you follow the flow of traffic. Most new Mercedes-Benz vehicles offer DISTRONIC PLUS® as a standard or optional feature. Keep reading to learn more about this exciting Mercedes-Benz innovation.

Using DISTRONIC PLUS®: Step-by Step Guide

Is your car already furnished with DISTRONIC PLUS®? You can use this system by following these steps:

  • You’ll find the system’s controls on a lever attached to your car’s steering column.
  • Move the lever up or down to adjust the cruising speed — up for a faster speed and down for a slower speed. Pressing the lever gently will change your speed by one mile per hour.
  • Pressing the lever hard, on the other hand, changes the speed by five miles per hour.
  • If you need to cancel your cruise control setting, simply apply the brakes or push the lever away from you.
  • Pull the lever toward you to resume the last speed you set.
  • You can use the knob at the end of the lever to set the distance between you and the vehicle ahead. The central screen will display the distance interval you select.
  • You can lightly press the gas pedal or pull the lever toward you to resume if the stop lasts longer than three seconds.

Blue Ash drivers should only use DISTRONIC PLUS® on highways. And wherever you venture, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and to not rely completely on any driver-assistance system. If you want to know more about how to use DISTRONIC PLUS®, refer to your owner’s manual or ask one of our service technicians!

DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist: How Does It Work?

DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist won’t operate unless both of your hands are on the steering wheel. This system functions at speeds of up to 120 mph. When it’s activated, you’ll see a green steering wheel in the instrument cluster. Basically, this system monitors lane markings and the vehicles around you, and can make steering corrections to accommodate changes in the road, such as sudden curves. DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist adds to the convenience of DISTRONIC PLUS® intelligent cruise control, and helps you make sure your car is always in its lane.
